COMMUNITY OVERVIEW

Steamboat Springs is known for its ranching heritage, Olympic athletes, Champagne Powder® and western hospitality. The ‘Boat embodies all these distinctions and more. We are not your average resort town—we are a community.

Four hundred working ranches dot the Yampa Valley, paying homage to our spurs and Stetson legacy. Homegrown businesses like Moots Cycles, Eriksen Cycles, Honey Stinger, Big Agnes, Boa and Smartwool bring innovative ideas to the valley.Bike paths and Safe Routes Programs make commuting to school safe for our kids. Locally owned shops line our downtown. Our community supports the oldest continually operated ski area in Colorado and historic Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club.

In Steamboat our identity is shaped by the people that have called the valley home for generations, and by those new to the community. We’re also defined by the incredible wilderness setting of Northwest Colorado. Aspen glades cover the Steamboat Ski Area, creating endless skiing and riding terrain. The term Champagne powder was even coined here. Hundreds of thousands of acres of public lands supports recreation in all directions. The Yampa, one of the West’s last undammed rivers, runs freely through the heart of downtown.

We are a real town, a community with history and a strong tie to the western landscape, and we invite you to be part of it. Ski. Bike. Hike. Fish. Paddle. Explore all that Ski and Bike Town USA has to offer!
