CYCLING CULTURE
Hundreds of miles of ridable routes and a wide-open valley full of country roads. A world-class riverfront bike path. BMX, pump tracks, and a mountain bike skills park. A state-of-the-art downhill bike park. New gravity specific bike trails. A strong community of riders led by local clubs Routt County Riders and Steamboat Velo. And outdoor industry leaders Smartwool, Point 6, Big Agnes, Honey Stinger, Inside Out PR, Moots Cycles and Eriksen Cycles—all who call Steamboat home. In the Boat’ cycling is engrained in our community and lifestyle.
We are passionate about cycling, and proud to be recognized as a Gold Level Bicycle Friendly Community from the League of American Bicyclists. But we’re even more excited to create even more riding opportunities.
Whether you’re an elite mountain biker, a former Tour de France racer, or a family cruiser, Steamboat has your interest and skill level covered. Cross country riders need look no farther than city-owned Emerald Mountain, home of historic Howelsen Hill. Join locals on Emerald’s 5,000 plus acres of public land and explore the extensive network of technical singletrack for quick lunch-hour rides to 25-mile-long epics like the Stinger loop, all accessible from the heart of downtown.
Across the valley you’ll find plenty of berms, jumps and flow to satisfy your inner downhiller. Steamboat Ski Area unveiled several gravity specific trails in recent years, complete with all types of features to push you to your limit.
For the skinny tire rider, the wide Yampa Valley offers great road riding in all directions. For scenic ranch vistas and mountain passes try local favorites Twenty Mile Road or River Road, or the 110-mile Gore Gruel.
Anchored by the 7.5-mile, paved, multi-use Yampa River Core Trail, Steamboat is set up for families, too. Paralleling the Yampa River, the Core trail weaves in an out of groves of cottonwoods with plenty of opportunity to stop and enjoy a picnic, dine out, soak in natural hot springs, shop and more.
In Bike Town, USA cycling is engrained in our community and lifestyle. We believe it’s Best When Ridden.
