In the fall of 2013, Referendum 2A was passed by local voters, repurposing a large portion of a municipal accommodation tax to develop area trails. Amounting to $5.1 million dollars over a ten-year period, it’s a significant investment that’s shared with visitors and locals alike.
The 2A Trails Steering Committee was established to plan and prioritize the trails projects. For the most up-to-date information from the committee, click here.
The Buffalo Pass Trails Project is currently in progress. After extensive public comment in the spring of 2015, the Forest Service spent the summer of 2015 field reviewing the proposal on the ground. The proposed action was modified some based on public comment, review by resource specialists and actual flagging of some trails. Layout was reviewed by resource specialists to assure the project will meet the intent of the purpose and need for the project, while protecting resources as required by laws and regulations.
The Forest Service anticipates completion of the Environmental Assessment in the spring of 2016, and begin implementation of the project the summer of 2016.
